American black bear on Drummond Island

Have trailcam, will travel…

Trail cameras are great tools for finding wildlife activity. My recent time on Drummond Island was reason enough to bring along my Reconyx Hyperfire–you never know. Remote explorations took me along an overgrown old trail showing recent signs of use. Nose down along the trail, I found a days-old partial print in dry dirt likely left by a bear. I followed the trail to its intersection with another in a small clearing with a corner tree overlooking the intersection and set my camera for the night.

I returned the next day and found this bear had passed my camera the night before and again five minutes before I arrived to collect the camera. The bruin certainly was in the area, heard and smelled my approach, and left before I came close.
